Directions

180 min.
1. Step

Prepare your vanilla and chocolate cakes as per the instructions on the packaging. Bake the cakes in 8-inch round pans and allow them to cool completely.

2. Step

Once completely cooled, level all the cakes evenly. Using a 6-inch round template (you can use a bowl or a wide circle cookie cutter), cut a circle in the middle of each cake layer

3. Step

Use the same method to cut a 3-inch circle out of the 6-inch circles you just made, so you are left with three parts for each layer - a ring, a middle circle, and a small circle.

4. Step

To assemble, start with a chocolate ring, add a vanilla middle circle, and then a chocolate small circle. Brush a little frosting to secure them together. Repeat the process with the other layers by alternating the vanilla and chocolate pieces.

5. Step

Frost each cake layer with a thin layer of buttercream frosting before stacking the layers. Make sure the checkerboard pattern is followed.

6. Step

After stacking all the layers, frost the whole cake and use food coloring if you wish to have different colors. Let it stay in the fridge before slicing.

7. Step

Enjoy your Checkerboard Cake!
