Directions
Prepare your ingredients. Peel and cut the potatoes into thin slices, I recommend using a mandolin for this, so they have a uniform thickness and cook at the same time.
Place the potatoes in a saucepan, cover with water, add salt and bring to a boil. Cook for about 5-10 minutes until the potatoes are slightly soft, but not completely cooked. This is a crucial step to get the perfect texture of the potatoes au gratin.
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and grease a baking dish with the butter.
In another saucepan, mix the cream and milk and add the crushed garlic cloves. Cook over low heat until hot.
Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them and begin to place them in the baking dish in layers. Sprinkle each layer with grated cheese and pour some of the cream and milk mixture. Repeat this process until all the potatoes are used up.
For the final layer, be sure to sprinkle generously with cheese for a crispy, golden top layer, the perfect finishing touch.
Bake for about 20-30 minutes until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly. Let stand for a few minutes before serving to allow the flavors to settle.
When serving, you can add some chopped fresh parsley on top for a touch of color and freshness. This recipe is the perfect accompaniment to any holiday main dish and will bring the warmth of the holiday spirit to the whole family. Enjoy!
