Directions
To make the gingerbread recipe, the first few minutes of the cooking process are crucial. Put the sugar, honey and butter in a pan and melt slowly. My tip: always stir to prevent burning.
Once the sugar mixture has completely melted, remove from the heat and leave to cool slightly. Then stir in the eggs. Take care: The mixture should not be too hot, otherwise the eggs could set.
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, gingerbread spice and orange zest. Add the dry ingredients to the liquid mixture and make a smooth batter.
We leave this dough to rest overnight. Yes, it requires patience, but I promise it's worth the wait! It gives the dough an even more intense flavor.
The next day, we roll out the dough to a thickness of approx. 5mm and cut out our gingerbread shapes.
Bake the gingerbread in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 10-12 minutes. They should be firm but not too dry.
After cooling, decorate the gingerbread with white powdered sugar and decorate with other ingredients as desired. Perfect for the Christmas season or as a gift!
