- 8 ounces tempeh
- 2 tbls soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cumin
- 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 11⁄2 tbls olive oil or coconut oil for frying

First, cut the tempeh into thin strips. You should be aiming for around the same thickness as a standard slice of bacon.
To make the marinade, combine the soy sauce or tamari, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, liquid smoke, cumin, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper in a shallow dish or bowl.
Place the tempeh strips into the marinade, ensuring that each piece is well coated. Allow the tempeh to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated tempeh strips to the pan.
Cook the tempeh for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the strips become crispy and caramelized.
Once cooked, remove the tempeh from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove any excess oil.
