Directions
1 To prepare the fennel salad, first wash the fennel bulbs thoroughly and cut off the bottom. Slice the fennel as thinly as possible using a sharp knife or a vegetable slicer. I recommend placing the slices immediately in a large bowl to prevent them from drying out.
Now wash and core the apples. Then slice or grate them just as thinly as the fennel. Place the apple slices in the bowl with the fennel.
Add the lemon juice and olive oil to the salad. Add salt and pepper to taste here too. Stir everything together well so that the lemon juice and olive oil are well distributed and completely cover the fennel and apple slices.
Finally, sprinkle the basil leaves and sesame seeds over the salad. Leave the salad to rest for a few minutes before serving. I have found that this short resting time helps to blend the flavors better and enhance the overall taste of the dish.
This fennel salad with apple can be served on its own or as a vegetarian side dish to a main course. Enjoy your meal!
