Steamed Mussels in Tomato Garlic White Wine Sauce

Ingredients
- 2 lbs fresh mussels
- 2 tbls olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 can of crushed tomatoes
- 1⁄2 Cup white wine
- a handful chopped Fresh basil leaves
- salt and pepper to taste
- Crusty bread or cooked spaghetti, for serving

Clean the mussels under running water, discarding any that are open or broken.
Heat the olive oil in a large pot and sauté the chopped onion until it’s translucent.
Add the minced garlic to the pot and cook for another minute.
Pour the canned tomatoes and white wine into the pot. Allow this mixture to simmer for about 20 minutes until it thickens slightly.
Add the mussels into the pot, cover it with a lid. Let them steam for about 10 minutes or until all mussels have opened. Discard any mussels that did not open.
Stir the chopped basil into the sauce and season the dish with salt and pepper.
Serve the mussels hot in the tomato sauce, with crusty bread or the cooked spaghetti to soak up the flavorful sauce.
