Directions
Begin by preheating your grill to medium heat. This allows the asparagus to cook evenly without charring too quickly, which I’ve found is key after numerous grilling sessions.
While the grill is heating up, wash the asparagus under cold water. Snap off the tough, woody ends. This method lets the asparagus naturally break where the tender part begins.
In a bowl, combine the melted butter, lemon zest, and juice, mixing until well blended.
Lightly brush the asparagus with the lemon-butter mixture. I personally prefer brushing instead of dipping – it ensures you don’t use too much.
Season the asparagus spears with salt and pepper to taste. Remember, less is more when it comes to seasoning, you can always add more later.
Place the asparagus on the grill, positioned across the grates so they don't fall through. Grill for about 2-3 minutes per side.
Once done, carefully remove them from the grill, a tongs works best.
Optionally, garnish with Parmesan shavings or grilled lemon slices and serve immediately. The garnishing adds not only flavor but a sophisticated flare to the presentation.
