Authentic Greek Tomato Feta Cheese Prawn Saganaki
Prawn Saganaki is a delicious Greek dish inspired by the traditional Greek Saganaki. The dish is a blend of king prawns, tomatoes, and feta cheese, fired up with a healthy splash of ouzo -- a classic Greek anise-flavored liqueur. Often served in an earthenware dish, it’s a hearty and tasty dish, perfect for those who savor seafood delights.
Ingredients
- 500 gms of King Prawns, peeled and deveined
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 100 gms of feta cheese, crumbled
- 400 gms of canned chopped tomatoes
- 50 ml of ouzo (or white wine)
- 1 teaspoon of oregano
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- A handful of fresh parsley, finely chopped

Directions
Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan or skillet over medium heat.
Add the finely chopped onion to the pan and sauté until translucent.
Add in the garlic and sauté for a further minute.
Pour in the ouzo (or white wine, if preferred) let it sizzle for a few minutes to cook off the alcohol and combine flavors.
Add the canned tomatoes, oregano, salt and pepper. Stir well and let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes, till the sauce thickens a bit.
Add in the king prawns and stir, cook for 3–5 minutes, or until the prawns turn pink and are cooked through.
Sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese over the top and remove the pan from the heat. Allow the heat within to soften the cheese.
Finally, garnish with the finely chopped fresh parsley.
Your Prawn Saganaki is now ready to be served. It goes very well with crusty bread or flavored rice.
