Directions
In a large bowl, combine the ground meats, eggs, bread crumbs, oregano, thyme, salt and pepper. Using your hands to mix the ingredients is the best way to integrate everything properly.
Once the ingredients are well mixed, start forming the meatballs. Try to make them all the same size, this way they will cook evenly.
In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until golden brown on all sides. This will not only give them an attractive color, but will also seal the juices inside.
Remove the meatballs from the pan and add the chopped garlic and onion. Cook until soft and translucent, add the red wine to deglaze, stirring well to pick up any bits that have stuck to the bottom of the pan. This will give the sauce a deep, rich flavor.
Return the meatballs to the pan and pour in the beef broth. Let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has reduced to the desired consistency.
Enjoy these meatballs with your family, and don't forget to pair them with a good wine and freshly baked bread for a perfect holiday meal.
