Classic Homemade Mexican Salsa Recipe
This classic homemade salsa recipe will take your tacos, nachos, and much more to a higher degree of deliciousness. This recipe is fresh, tasty, and takes only 20 minutes to prepare. The key to this dish is using fresh roma tomatoes and adjusting the ingredients to taste.
Ingredients
- 10 ripe Roma tomatoes, cut into quarters
- 2 red onions, finely chopped
- 2 jalapenos, deseeded and chopped (adjust according to your spice preference)
- 1 large bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
- Juice of one lime
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)

Directions
Place the quartered tomatoes in a blender or food processor. Pulse until they're coarsely chopped (not pureed).
Transfer the chopped tomatoes to a large bowl.
Add the chopped onions, minced garlic, chopped jalapenos, chopped cilantro, lime juice to the bowl. If using, add the chopped bell pepper and sugar.
Stir until well combined.
Season with salt, taste and adjust seasoning as required. If you prefer a sweeter salsa, add a little more sugar. If you like your salsa spicy, add another jalapeno.
The salsa will get better as it sits, so if possible, make it a few hours before serving.
