Homemade Italian Marinara Sauce from Scratch
Marinara sauce is a traditional Italian sauce, made with ripe tomatoes and herbs, perfect for pasta, pizza, or as a dip for breadsticks.
Ingredients
- 2 tbls olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1⁄2 teaspoon sugar
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Directions
In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
Add the tomato paste and sugar to enhance the flavors. Stir well to combine.
5 Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste the sauce and seasoning if needed, adding more salt, sugar, or herbs according to preference.
Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
Serve the marinara sauce over cooked pasta or use it as a base for pizza. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
