Pulled pork is a popular dish in Southern-American cuisine. It is often served as a main dish, either on its own or in sandwiches, and it pairs well with various barbecue sauces, coleslaw, and pickles. Learn how to make it with this easy recipe.
Ingredients
- 5 lb pork shoulder or pork butt or pork loin
- 1 large onion
- 2 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 5 cloves garlic
- 15 oz root beer or orange juice
- 11⁄2 cups barbecue sauce

Directions
Slice or dice one large onion.
Halve and peel 4 or 5 cloves of garlic.
Whisk together paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, oregano, and salt in a small bowl.
Remove the pork from its packaging and pat it dry with a paper towel.
Sprinkle half of the dry rub onto the top of the pork and rub it in. Flip the pork over and apply the remaining dry rub.
If desired, make slits in the pork with a knife and insert fresh garlic into the slits.
Place the sliced onions in the Slow Cooker. Then place the seasoned pork on top of the onions.
Pour the root beer into the crock pot.
Cook on low for 8 hours, high for 4 hours, high for 2 hours, and low for 4 hours. The internal temperature should be between 190°F and 210°F.
Remove the pork from the slow cooker and transfer it to a large bowl.
Using two forks, shred the pork. Add a few ladlefuls of the leftover juice and onions to the shredded pork. You can choose to keep or discard the remaining liquid.
Mix the shredded pork, onions, and juice until well combined. It is now ready to serve.
Place some pulled pork on a bun, add pickles, and top it with the other half to create a delicious barbecue pulled pork sandwich. Enjoy the flavorful pork!
