Simple Authentic Mongolian Beef

Ingredients
- 1 lb beef steak, thinly sliced into strips
- 2 tbls maize starch
- 1⁄2 Cup soy sauce
- 1⁄4 Cup brown sugar
- 1⁄4 Cup hoisin sauce
- 1⁄2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 tbls vegetable oil
- 1 large green onion, for garnish
- Steamed rice or noodles for serving

Directions
In a large mixing bowl, toss the beef strips with cornstarch until evenly coated. Set aside.
In another bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, and red pepper flakes.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips to the hot oil and cook until browned and cooked through, approximately 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the sauce mixture and cook for a couple of minutes until it thickens and becomes slightly sticky. Return the cooked beef to the skillet to coat each strip with the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Once the beef is fully coated and heated through, remove from heat. Serve the Mongolian Beef over steamed rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onion.
